I know we have a couple of threads going for transponders, but I have not seen anything concrete yet about a group purchase, or anything like that. Me being the frugal shopper that I am, I went back to the AMB website, and low and behold, the price has gone up in 2004.

The TranX260 Direct Powered unit was $260, and the rechargable was like $295.

Now the prices are as follows:

Direct Powered: $295
Rechargeable: $329

I began searching around and TracksideSupply (www.tracksidesupply.com) has them for $265/$295 respectively.

I plan to order mine today, unless I am missing out on a group purchase or something.

Also, are there any components to get "real-time" timing in-car with this system?

I know about the i-card for Gameboy, but I was looking for some sort of display like my HotLap system has.

Anyway, there it is.

I haven't heard anything of a group purchase that has been concrete either. There was some talk of one over on the midiv forum ( www.midiv.org (http://www.midiv.org) ), but nothings come of it.

I received an email from one of the CenDiv members after I placed an ad for two of them. Their division is selling the AMBs for (IIRC) the 265/295 price. I think I'll go with them as opposed to a retailer just to help a division offset their costs.

There is a transponder from AMB that will give you an incar display. Bad news is that it is not the normal transponder and cost is around $900 but you get the diplay unit and can download it. You have to go directly to AMB for that. My suggestion is a gameboy and a radio. Any color gameboy, the older the better, and you can buy those at used video stores for $15 -$30 and cost of iCard. It is the region in Cendiv that is selling them (NEOHIO) and not the division itself. You can go to their website for the order form. The person that handles them will be gone from the 20th until the 8th.

Well, forget about Trackside Supply. I went back to the site this morning, and the price has changed to the AMB website price. I have been trying to contact someone there to see if they will honor the price that was advertised less than 15 Hrs ago, but no luck so far.

At the Midiv convention, when the mandate for transpoonders was passed, Candy Gerber had in her hand a proposal for a reduced rate on transponders that would also go to help purchase the front-end (T&S-needed portion) of the system.

I checked with her, and as of Friday she said she's working with KVRG to get the deal set up - KVRG will sign the contract, and once it's signed the transponders will be available for purchase (as I understand it).

Don't know the exact cost....but, I'd guess it'll be less than the new, improved '04 prices, and it would help one of our regions purchase the equipment they need.

Heck, I don't need one 'til April, anyway. http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif

Jarrod,

Thanks for the update. I was just hoping for some sort of price break.

Hope your off-season is going well.

All: transponders for sale: http://forums.midiv.org/forums/index.php?a...ct=ST&f=10&t=74 (http://forums.midiv.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=10&t=74)

That's about as good as we're gonna get.

Summary:
Hardwire, $268
Rechargeable, $300

Both prices are shipped.

Offseason is going pretty well so far. I've been helping Dave Volante build his new Spec Miata, and just took my car to his shop a couple days ago....so it's time to start working on it a bit.

On the list:
change the oil http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif
little bit of body work
clean stuff up (strange red clay under car.....)
check the suspension bushings over
mount a transponder

Could get a lot more done on the car if we'd stop spending money on other stuff. Of course, I can't complain about the latest purchase TOO much - '03 diesel Excursion.

(Hey, SHE wanted the SUV....and agrees on getting an enclosed trailer some time....thus, the need for the bus. That's not THE reason I married her last month, but it didn't hurt.... http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif )

First event for us will be Topeka in April.

Jarrod,

First off CONGRATS!!!!! I plan to do the nuptuals thing this May myself.

Great news on the new tow vehicle. I need a diesel so bad, but maybe next year.

I will see you @ HPT in April.

Thanks for the note on the Transponders too.

Here's a head's up for anyone planning on racing at Memphis this year (3/20, 5/29,10/16): the Mid-South Region WILL NOT have transponders available for sale or rent. We suggest you get in Candy's Group Buy (see above post).
