VIR May 6-8th

I found the website to register for the event but I was wondering what the registration fee was before I actually went through the trouble of registering and I was also looking for who has entered the race. Is this info posted anywhere? Thanks from a New Englander that still has snow on the hood of his Audi!

Yup it is I did find it today in the supps. However I still can't find a preregistered list anywhere??? In hte North East we have a list on the net of preregistered cars Maybe this registration program in the south doesn't have that.... or I am jsut numb and can't find it :}

Why does this have to be the same weekend as the CenDiv season opener? I'd love to be there guys but I gotta take care of the local stuff. Hopefully I'll still find my way to VIR this year.

Up until yesterday, I wasn't either. HOWEVER, I am now.

When you get to the screen that asks for your car logbook number, look in the box just below that. The link says, "VIEW IN-WORK ENTRANT LIST".

By the way, does ANYBODY have ANY experience with the Grand Course??? ANY info on particular turns, etc.(that aren't part of the Full Course)?

By the end of the weekend, I will hopefully have completed the requirements to turn my Novice Permit into a Region License.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have my novice permit and will hopefully complete both races. Needless to say I have no experience with the Grand Course or for that matter VIR in general.

I'll have an in-car camera for the practice day on Thursday. You're welcome to stop by.

I'll be there with a yellow w/blue CRX in ITA, #29, and a big fluffy white suburban.

This is a course where the fast ITA cars could really put the screws to the ITS boys (and girls). The GC additions really favor nimble cars like the CRX and Miata but unfortunately add about a mile of follow-the-leader racing as it's really too tight to pass safely until you're heading back up to the rollercoaster.

For those of you who weren't there (and some who were), here are some vids from my mITA (Group 7: ITA/IT7/ITS) races this weekend.

I'm having some DSL router issues that are making my 768K line worse than usual. So pretty-please RIGHT-CLICK / Save As.....

1. One lap of the VIR Grand Course (13mb)

2. Saturday Race (30mb). Started 7th overall, spun @ "The Bitch" on 1st lap, and had to fight back from 38th place. Finished 18th overall (4th in class by about two feet)

3. Sunday Race (incomplete, 20mb). Started 38th after transponder issues in qualifying. Passed nine(!!) cars on 1st lap before Nascar (T3).

that was the most fun i've had racing yet! group 4 was a blast on both saturday and sunday. there were enough ITC cars for everyone to have a race!

saturday, I started 4th and finished 5th... had I not spun at hog pen on the first hot lap and miss shifted at the entrance to the cut through on the last, I might have had the momentum to finish 4th (Scott and I were side by side at the line!) it was just a great race... back and forth the whole time.

sunday, I started 3rd in class, had perhaps my best start yet (didn't lose any positions http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/biggrin.gif ) and had a great race with Stephen Douglas and his Sciracco for many laps. unfortunatly, he got around me and the #8 SSC mazda. also, unfortunatly, i had my first and hopefully last racing incident at oak tree, with the mazda. he was cool about it at the end, and even said he should have let me through to play catch up with the VW... nonetheless, i made a mistake, and it cost me a postition later. lesson learned!

the honda performed well. was much quicker than the cars ahead of me, in the turns. it could use a little more leg in the straights. no complaints here!

if you didn't make it last weekend, you missed one great time!

I agree whole-heartedly. That must have been the weekend for close finishes. Heather just missed 2nd TWICE by no more than a couple of car lengths each time, and I made a pass on Saturday (OK, it was for 8th) at the checker and beat the other guy buy about a bumper!

I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the Grand either - it is nice that it's a speed equalizer for the fast vs slow cars but it's brutal on the equipment. All told, it was a good learning experience and tons o'fun.

I loved the Grand course. I found you could pass coming out of the 180 degree left hander before the next series of esses. I hope they run it again next year. I thought it equalized the course a little bit more for handling cars vs. the cars with more straight line speed. Of course, I got my first 2nd and 3rd place finish on the GC, so I might be a wee bit biased.

I liked driving the Grand on the parade laps - nothing like hoping kerbs in a one-tonne truck http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif. As for passing - it's possible but it takes a bit of cooperation from both parties and the overtaking car is frequently dirt-tracking but it's certainly possible to pass. If nothing else, the Patriot course (the portion of the track that makes it "Grand") is a great place to fill your opponent's mirrors and make him/her think about you for a while.

the Grand Course did equalize the competition. the crx was better through the twisty bits than the straights. i enjoyed it even though it's not the traditional VIR layout would rather drive it, as it gave the C car more passing opportunities.

now, when the day comes and i can have a v8... then yes, i would rather race the full course.

Passsing may be hard on the Patriot Circuit, but I found if I could get into the Bitch before the ITS cars, or other ITA cars with more straight speed, I could pull away enough to not worry about them running me down on the main straight.

Hey Mike,

Don't think I encountered you on course until Sunday. I started at the back of the field after having an agricultural excursion just before the second lap started. This was one of those, oh shit, this dude is braking!!!

The last race was kind of a dissapointment, a bit anti-climatic considering I saw 3-5 pass me with two of the three cars passing me 'cause of another mistake I made... and looking at the results from the race on Saturday I was less then 2 tenths from over taking #12 at the finish.

yeah, thanks to the ita cars that pushed me through the patriot circut! i never really thought of a bmw as a "big" car, but all those buzzing crx's on the infield loop made me feel like a greyhound bus....i hope the draft i provided on the straights was decent payback...;-)
