Just wanted to say that there are a few of us Cannucks coming down for this event. Any of you IT.com folks, please come buy and say hey (beers on us) Just look for the Vantage bunch or our identical red/white CRX's.

Bruce:
Glad to know that you lot are coming. Please try to convince Derek that cars are to be passed, not pushed.
I seem to have overcome the fuel starvation problem that got me in his way last time, but I'm getting the car ready for the Nelson Ledges 12-hour so I'll just be there to watch.

Hey Bill Miskoe,

Did you used to race a black 240z way back in the day? Many years ago (1990?), I paddocked next to a guy at Bridgehampton that had a black 240z w/ 'Iron Dragon Racing' on it.

I've had a few black Z-cars, some at Bridgehampton, though not till after 1994.
Now I have a red/yellow 280Z.

Bill, the 12 hour would be awesome. Many of us dont venture South of the border very much, so this double event will be fun. Not as much track time as we are used to, but fun nevertheless. Drop by for a cold-one, because I owe you one anyway. Just look for older Southwind Motorhome & 2-car trailer.

I'll be battling with Derek this Sunday at AMP (Nova Scotia). He's tough, but if I'm running good, he shouldn't be a problem (I shouldn't say that - he's probably watching IT.com!) http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif

BTW, there will be at least 7+ of us Cannucks coming down to this event. A bunch of us racers got together and decided to do a group event somewhere within a 10-12 hour drive. NHIS seemed to be the logical place. I would also like to suggest that any of you Northeast racers could do the same and come up to our facility. What you would get is tons of track time, very friendly people and lots of fun.

We are planning on doing the same at a 3-hour endurance race at Mosport in September.

Good afternoon Racers,

It has come to our attention, that this weekends event might be short staffed in the flagging department, ther are events at LRP, the Glen and mount Washington. this does not usually happen.

If the minimum corner staffing levels are not met the event could be held up until they are.

I am asking any competitor who will be attending to keep an ear open incase we are short. any licensed driver is qualified to work a corner and we may need your help.

I know we could all help each other and work together by taking turns staffing corners. a couple of sessions is all someone would have to work to make the weekend run smooth.

with some luck we'll be ok
thanx brian m

I have to take my hat off to a turn 3 corner worker on Saturday. I was watching the ITS when an RX7 went straight into the barrier between 3 and 10. This 110lb corner worker jumped down with exstingusher and crept all the way across in front of the barrier to check on the driver. Although there was a standing yellow, NOBODY was slowing down (and there was even a pass or two.....). She then lead the driver off to the side.

That took a LOT of guts!! I know that the workers do this all the time but this one hit home with me!! She deserved a standing "O" for that performance.

Also, nice job by the Vantage guys from Canada. I'll buy the beer if you DON'T come down again!! http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/biggrin.gif

Credit goes to Eileen McStay, corner worker/flagger extrodinaire for more years that you'd think just looking at her! Grant McStay is her husband, and he too has worked more corners than most of us have raced...and after awhile, he took the plunge and has joined us on the other side....he now drives (very well, I might add, congrats go to him for his ITA 'Lite" win yesterday) an ITA RX-7. It's Petty blue, so feel free to say hi and thanks to them the next time you're cruising the paddock.

(And that RX-7 MOVED the cement barrier a foot, BTW)

Also for all any "great" races and or mishaps that we would all be interested in???

Its great to see that between 2 Northeast tracks we had over 500 people racing!!! SCCA and Racing in general is going/growing strong http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/smile.gif

ITB ran with SM this weekend in a schedule change due to the 55 Miata's signed up between SM and SSM. Not many ITBers were super thrilled but it would be interesting to hear the thoughts post race.

As usual, the Vantage team was there and strong. I think Carlson tool Sat and Lugar took Sunday. The best part about seeing them is that they ALWAYS look like they are having fun. THAT is great.

We had 3 ITS RX-7's, 1 ITA Miata, and 3 Spec Miata's running...all came home safe along with a couple checkers.

Is "THEY" the majority? How was your race Jeff? I was right behind Scott and Derek Sunday. Outstanding race between the two. I have raced next to Paul Curran and would anyday.

I was talking to somebody who said there were a lot of crap drivers in SM...and I pointe dout that most classes have a certain percentage of drivers we all don't like to be near...and that # goes up when there are 55 Miata at the track any given weekend!

Yes, there was some interesting stuff both days in ITA, courtesy of Victor (me). http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/smile.gif
Apologies to the whole ITA/ITC field on Sunday at the start as I limped along from 2nd place to 30th, and kudos for not ramming me. I was having some computer issues, but I managed to stay out of everyone's way and finish (not last) 18 laps. I have not DNF'd in 4 years and I wasn't going to start yesterday!
On Saturday in an awesome race (in my opinion) with Jeremy about halfway through I took turn 2 coming out the oval too wide and got loose in the marbles. Managed to miss the back straight wall after doing a 360 plus a 180. Worked my way back to 4th and I was happy. Good weekend all around, some issues too, but that's racing.

I was actually pretty happy to be running with SM this weekend, not that I have an issue with ITS either. (Hoping I can get some of the Swedish Pit in me.) I had 19 cars (some ITB cars) within 1 second of my time. Pretty freakn' cool!! And this is said after getting a "ding" on my car from a SM. O.k. So even duck tape can't repair this one. http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/frown.gif

Sat. - Watching Carlson qualify in the wet was amazing! Seriously. On Sunday I was right behind him for at least a 1/4 lap during qualifying but just couldn't keep his pace. O.k. I totally don't get NHIS and can't seem to find any flow there. But still I had a fun weekend and enjoyed hanging out with the guys and gals.

Too bad about Paul Curran's car issues. Hopefully he'll get things straightened out for the NARRC.

Jeff - I wonder what times you'd be doing with some Hoosiers or the new Kuhmos? I don't think you give yourself enough credit. (Think Labor Day Summit Point!)

Wasn't at the track, but I must say that when I (an ITB driver) have been grouped with SM or SSM I have enjoyed driving with 95% of them. They have all "Raced" me without any issues (from my end anyway http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif). That could be though because the front running ITB cars generally run with the Front running SM or SSM cars in my races past (not sure if that is still the case or not). Generally every large class gets a percentage of poorer drivers the further back in the pack you go. (and NO to those that have slow cars but drive well, I don't mean you!!!)

Yes, I know my statement came acrosss as a generalization, as Andy was pointing out http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/smile.gif I saw Crew "Lady's" comments and was a little POed. However, the follow up posts restored a lot of good will for me. I did have my issues in Saturdays race, went to talk to the other driver and got nothing but attituded. Those two events plus having to run with cars that were so evenly matched made for a frustrating weekend in that sense (I did over all have a blast!!!). I was help up by Miata's as I'm SURE I held some of them up.

It's funny, a few years ago IT had the same reputation as the Maitas do know!! Only it was justified!! http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/biggrin.gif

I would still rather run with ITS because of the speed differential. That way I can dice with just ITB cars. Andy, NER88, I'll refrain from generalizing about Miatas!!

I, for one, had a good (not great, I'll expand on that) weekend and did not have any personal issues with any SM cars. I did question the legality of rear window tint and went to the driver on grid to mention that I could not see him wave off the start on Saturday. When I approached him on Sunday, he had already removed the tint, and welcomed the feedback that I could not see hand signals.

The Saturday qual. went well despite the incorrect decision to run rains and my shift selector falling off leaving me in what I think was fourth gear. I still qualified OK. The race was going very well, as I diced back and forth with Eli in the #67 ITB VW which is the sister car to my #17 Red VW. We had a great time, but I had a drive flange separate from the tranny, which put me out at lap 12. I did post a lap time that was on .2 seconds off my brother’s fastest NHIS time which is very encouraging.

I did end my race early on Sunday when a SM car spun at the exit of the chicane and I had no where to go, but that was a racing incident and he had been racing around me and ITB car for the previous four laps without any incidents. I spoke with Rob McCabe (#54 Vantage car) after the incident because he helped to accelerate me into the Miata when I had the binders on and the wheel turned to avoid the incident. He said he had his wheel completely turned and there was nothing he could do either. I sustained heavy damage to the front and lite damage to the rear. Repairs will begin tonight.

Thanks to Brian Mushnick, Jeff Benagh, Fire Rescue (parts recovery), Rapid (more parts recovery), and Raymond Blethen (graphics).

Also thanks for some great {clean} racing/qualifying with: Charles Gerundo (#95 ITB); Jeff Lawton (#74 ITB); and Eli Garret (#67 ITB).

If all goes well, I will see everyone at the Glen. If not, I will be at NHIS in August.

First, I would like to thank all the drivers who made it by my "new car" as I was shaking it out. I was struggling with fuel delivery issues due to a rusty (and I mean R-U-S-T-Y) gas tank...during one of the fuel filter cleanings we pulled out two full-sized bugs. I made every attempt to lift and be off line when faster cars approached

Jeff Lawton, Eli, Jeff and Jason, Derek (and the rest of the SM and ITB crowd)....I made sure to leave you all plenty of room and I thank you for making it by without issues. I hope I did not hold you up at all.

The fuel tank is at a radiator shop right now, and will come back clean and coated.

As for the SM discussion...Andy is spot on (I hate when he is right). With any given group, you will get your group of "bad" drivers...with SM/SSM and a class of ~55, you will have a much higher chance of being around one of them. I happened to be in that situation...but I refrain from public forum rants...ON the lighter side, when I was getting tapped by an SM on my rear bumper, it was quite comical to see the SM wiggle and the Audi tank barely move http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/smile.gif

Car should be much better at the Glen, but all in all, I am VERY happy considering the first at speed lap for the car was Saturday's race.

Regards,
Alan

I'll second that Victor! Great race, I had a blast. Your spin was very entertaining in my mirror. I went through 3 and had to look up track to see if you hit anything. I can't believe you made it out.

Too bad for Sunday. About 5 or 6 laps into the race I started having some fuel delivery issues (at least that is the guess right now). Kind of made for a boring race for me on Sunday.

sense to be full on the binders, I thought this was going to be the full test of my
HANS device. I think you got the worst of it, which I truly am sorry for.

If you feel the need to get w/ Rob directly, let me know, I will put you in touch. He is a genuinely nice guy who would not want hard feelings to be felt between himself or any of the rest of the Miata Herd and the IT Crowd.

As I said in my post -- I see this as a racing incident. There was nowhere for me to go and nothing he did, but over drive the corner. No foul here. I have really good video (head on) of his car and mine.

I appreciate the response and I look forward to racing with Rob again.

Brian Mushnick helped me to pull out the front end using my truck. I hope to make it the Glen next weekend.

Happy racing.
