Summit Pt on June 18th - Anyone heading South?

I'm going to try Summit for the first time on June 18th, provided my new engine runs by then. Anyone from NER planning on heading south? Any suggestions for a first timer at Summit?

I won't be there for the race, but I would suggest that you check out some of the various in-car videos that people have posted here. Greg Ginsberg had some nice footage from his ITA Honda.

When you get to the track, you can usually find me (#72 Blue CRX) paddocked just to the right of OG Racing, next to Dave Parker's ITC Scirocco. Matt (#01 Orange Golf--the General Li) is usually off in the woods where he belongs.

Wow - thanks for the fast and hospitable responses! Um, Gregg, your video link didn't work for me - can you verify the path (or is Big (blue oval) brother watching me? I saw that there is a practice day on friday; At this point, I plan to attend, and learn the track then (instead of learning during qualifying, which I did at NHIS - not funny when there are turns at the crest of a hill!)

The MARRS ITC group is a good bunch to run with. There are people of various skill levels so there is always someone to race with.
We try to keep things on a pretty even keel, and have fun(With as small as ITC is becoming that is about all that we have left is FUN).We are grouped with Spec RX7 but we have found that there is a place for our front of pack race in with them. The rest of the field is as a friend has put it "workingman's land".

If you would like to paddock with us(the paddock is always crowded, but with 300 cars what can you expect) please let me know and we can work out the details.

I am registered, but I can't take a repeat of the CMP weekend, engine temps way too high everytime I went past 50% throttle so I had to just drive around mosto of the time. Head, block, water pump all checked out OK so it must (hopefully) be the old stock radiator. A replacement is on order -but will it come in time...

Yeah Dave I know what you mean...ITC is getting small. Its good to here that ITC is just like here ..I race with a great bunch of guys and gal up here in the North East.
And yeah if possible it would be great to pit near you guys ! Hopfully the car goes together ok within the next week...

yup, you can camp at the track. either in the paddock area or they have campsites in the woods too....where it may be quieter...

Way cool video Greg. That is what makes up for a goof or late to the grid when your late to it. Nice driving. Looks like people seem to be cool on the track. not to many bone head moves other than yours. Ha Ha. I had a run like that at LRP late to the grid and passed 30 cars. What Honda were your driving. that track looks like fun. lots of fast corners with tricky throttle movements.
Again great video and drive.

Summit is definitely a a fast and challenging two miles. Having just completed a couple of long stints in an ITC car for this past weekend's 12 Hours at the Point, I can tell you that it's a tough course even at slower speeds.

And camping next to the cars..its the best ..nothing like waking up to the smell of race fuel and loud cars !! well coffee helps too.
Just wondering on base set up...is there equal left & rights , or is it like Lime Rock where there are mostly rights ? Any hints would be greatly appriciated..

Great, ANOTHER RX7 that'll be faster than me...

Welcome aboard, Dave - Summit Point used to be known as Slippery Point until it was repaved a few years ago. Now it's only super-slippery in the rain but it's not nearly as grippy as other tracks I've encountered such as The Glen. The majority of the turns are rights but the course isn't so tight or punishing that you'll cord a LF in 2 sessions.

If you're planning to camp, I'd suggest "back in the woods" simply b/c the area is shaded unlike the tarmac!! The grass (actually the weeds) are usually mowed before the event so unlike Nelson, you don't need your Weedwacker or lawnmower.
