I would come to New Hampshire for our first race next Sunday. There, you can walk around and talk to people about racing. You'll also see first hand what a race is like, you may decide its not for you, or its what you've been looking for. People are very friendly, and will set you in the right direction. Good luck

Stop buy and visit us in the ITB Audi's if you come to the race at NHIS on April 18th... We would love to chat and answer any questions. Before you come to the race be sure to check out the NER website for some useful information. www.ner.org (http://www.ner.org)

I believe that SCCA offers temporary memberships so you might want to take advantage of that and do some volunteer corner working for a few sessions to get "up close" to the action. On May 8th is the second race and is at Lime Rock in Conn. Lime Rock is arguably a much better track for spectators and drivers alike. Be prepared as these first couple races generally have lower turnouts as many "New Englanders" are still thawing out from winter.

Also if you have not run any type of motor sports events then I suggest trying autocrossing. It will take you a year to get into the whole SCCA road racing thing (unless you have a lot of ambition) so while you are working on that check out the Cumberland Motor Club ( http://www.cumberlandmotorclub.com/ )for great local Autocrosses in the Maine area. An autocross is different from road racing and might not be what you are looking for but it definatly offers its own challenges and certainly lays the groundwork for teaching you car control. You will learn a lot in your first few autocrosses and you will continue to learn every time you run. A lot of great road racers start with autocrosses. (SCCA also hosts many autocrosses across the Northeast but I am not aware of any in Maine)

Directions to NHIS can be found at: http://www.nhis.com

Directions to Lime Rock can be found at: http://www.limerock.com/

I'm in the same boat, this is my first year doing IT racing also, but I believe this is my 4th year involved in the SCCA. I love watching the sport grow, and meeting new people at the track.
