Since we should be thinking about annual tech for 04 and the GCR is just arriving,
lets have some input on GCR changes that we will have to be aware of.

I'll throw out the first.

GCR 20.8 Drivers Restraint System
p 173
SFI labels expire on 12/31 of the 2nd year after the date of manufacture.

oops jack I know that was just a typo but,
SFI labels expire 12/31 of the second full year after date.
FIA belt labels have the expiration date on them which is five years after the date of manufacture.
I actually can't think of any other IT changes this year though the miata guys have lots of work to do.

Dick,
That was not a typo- it was more like a brain fart.

Thanks for the catch- I did mean SFI

I seem to remember some sort of time-limit on annual techs. If you car hasn't raced/been teched for over 2 or 3 months (60 or 90 days?) then it needs another annual. Does that sound right to anyone? I don't want to get an annual tech too soon, that's all.

Not that my car is ready or anything, though....

Are belts with a January 2004 date, good until December 31, 2005, or December 31, 2006?

2006. From memory (and above), the rule reads "expire 12/31 of the second full year after date". Your belts are Jan 04, two years later is Jan 06. Thus, they expire 12/31/2006.

Now I suspect that this was not the intent, but that's the way I understand it.

Greg you would be wrong. faced with the sfi 2 year recomendation the comp boards clever wording bought us another year.

My interpretation of the 2nd year after manufacure is :

Belt manufacured in 2003- good until 12/31/05

Jeremy,

Annual inspection has to be every calendar year but you could have done 04's in December of 03

Cars that have not competed for 3 months may be reinspected. The important word is may.

It would be up to the Chief Steward or the Tech people to do this. I do not know of it happening anywhere in NeDiv.

Of course, any class or car may be reinspected if it is in the supps. or it has suffered crash damage.

BTW Pete had a 4th and a 3rd in the SM at Sebring this past weekend.

Dick, I'm curious about your comment regarding all the work SM cars willl need. To run SSM, all we should need to do is have current belts. For SM, adjust ballast, ingition lock and kill switch.. Am I missing something?

Thanks, Bill

That's what I had heard. However, I did miss the "may" part in that. It was few years ago. My car hadn't been raced for a couple of months, and this topic came up at tech.

Thanks for the clarification.
