Truly *fascinating* situation in terms of rules interpretations, intents, and intrigue. I've been impressed with BAR's rules and technical creativity over the last couple of years, and this one takes the cake. A tip of the hat to the engineers.

The FIA hearing is May 4th; the results will be far-reaching.

Some quotes:

"One possible explanation is that, for whatever reason, the team hedged their bets. They came up with an interesting and quite possibly valid interpretation...it's a dangerous game to rely on your own interpretation of a situation like that, without first checking with the [sanctioning body]..."

"Is being able to cheat illegal in itself? That's going to involve some serious debate over semantics, and views will undoubtedly be divided."

BTW, I don't feel the spirit of the rules can be used to objectively tech inspect cars. If the spirit has been broken, tighten the rule to prevent the technique in future, but don't blame or penalise BAR for exploiting a grey area - it's their job.

wel, that's an interesting one. Matchett pointed out, in the Speed qualifying telecast, that the FIA requires that all items be presented to them before for approval, and that this item was not has had dire consequences for the team, which has been excluded from this event AND the next!!!!!!!!!!!

So, EVEN IF the tank is found to be a loophole in the rules, history has forever been altered. Serious s#$t here...Can you imagine the heat from the sponsors for not even being IN the race!?!?!

Of course the flipside is that anything that gets your name in front of the public is a good thing...."Any press is good press"...
