Novice ||| or = parallel stripes?

In looking at the supplimental rules, specifically for the MARRS series, it states that, "All Novice permit holders must display three parallel stripes on both sides and the rear of their race car following the GCR specifications for car numbers."

I looked at the scca.com website and can not view the online GRC... keep getting some type of error message.

So the question is, should the three stripes be horizontal or verticle? Should they be next to the number? I want to make sure my racer-tape adhesion looks "professional". http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif

I used a duct tape X beside my number and on the back of the car. got my two races done in one weekend, so no more X. I was thinking the X was the way it was done, or at least I told that by everyone, but MAARS I suppose is different.

I think the X denotes that you're a rookie, not necessarily a novice permit holder. I got my regional license from taking the Panoz road racing school, but I'm still displaying the X on the back of my car since I'm a rookie. I will display it for most of the season probably. Not sure if the X is specified in the GCR or not. It was just something I was told by some people who had been racing for a while. A way to tell other drivers that you're still learning the ropes.

So I don't think the X takes the place of the parallel bars if you only have a novice permit. Couldn't tell you whether they're vertical or horizontal, though.

It's a region-by-region or divisional thing. You need clarification from whoever made the rule 'cuz it won't be in the GCR.

In the Northeast, we use X on cars during schools to denote (experienced) on-track instructors...

In San Francisco, we use "N" on the side of car, and an Orange "placard" on the rear of the car to tell the folks behind you that your a "Novice"

Drivers Instructor's have "X" on their cars during school.

We used an "N" in NW Region and the common interpretation was that it stood for "nervous."
