I have a hard dog hard core double diagnal roll bar for my 91' miata. I read the rules and there a little fuzzy for me...Single main hoop diagonal brace and harness bar standard

Constructed of highest quality tubing 1.75" diam x .120" wall

3/16" mounting and back-up plates
it sits over 2 inches above my head

http://www.bethania-garage.com/hardcore.htm

It the main hoop goes to the bottom of the bulk head but not all the way to the floor...is that still legal? it is a pretty solid well constructed and safe bar.... if its not legal what could I do to it to get it legal?

Thanks,
Roy

If it's just a roll bar it's not legal for racing. IT requires a full cage. Dunno about SOLO I, tho'.

Sure...so long as you used the same type/diameter, etc of tubing. Two things trouble me though...1) the rear braces not going to the floor and 2) the diagonal brace not going from the top of one side to the bottom of the other.

While I'm not an engineer, the design picture on the web site may be plenty strong but SCCA can be pretty adamant about their required design requirements.

Sorry I'm not much help...go to the search function in here and search "Miata roll" and it gives you about 9 hits...answer may be in the archives.

Oh yeah...you might want to try this site: http://www.specmiata.com/

Not trying to keep a young guy from pursuing his dream of racing, but you might want to try track events/hi performance driving schools at this stage (i.e., limited college student budget). Especially if this is your daily driver. Many of the events put on by sanctioning bodies other than the SCCA (NASA for one example) will allow you to get on the track with just a roll bar. Try here:

Roy:

E-mail me at bill at planet6racing dot com. I'm in Milwaukee and would be happy to help out where I could. Or, since you have limited funding, you might be able to help me out by crewing at my races (sure, it's not racing, but you'll learn about 100,000 things in advance of actually starting to race).
