There was a show on Speed last week dealing with rebuilding an engine...I couldn't hang on and watch the entire thing but they mentioned "bronze titanium Coatings" for engine and gearbox.
Coatings have been around for awhile but they seem to be a black art. They are impregnated into the metal and do not affect clearances, and the parts must be heated...is there currently any vendor for this type of product ?

1. They are largely illegal in IT.

2. They are not really a black art. They are science actually if you find someone who knows what they are doing.

3. Lots of vendors. I use Swain Technology when I need coatings. http://www.swaintech.com Dan Swain is a racer from way back and one of the pioneers of the industry. He's been at this for over 30 years. While most coating companies use off-the-shelf products from elsewhere, Swain does their own R&D and make their own coatings.

4. Did I mention they are largely illegal in IT?

Yes, I think you did. They are also, in some cases, largely undetectable. As such, they can't be effectively policed, and therefore the rule is unenforceable.

The irony is that it was approximately at the same time that the coatings rule was passed, that the fuel injection computer rule was rescinded because it was unenforceable...

Yes Don, I've heard there are coatings that are supposed to be undetectable.

Have I mentioned lately that cheaters suck?
