Does anyone out there use a data system for driver feedback? I am thinking that that will be my next major racing investment, and I was wondering what, if any, systems you guys are using.

How do you feel about the software that comes with it?
What sensors are you using? I'm thinking I would like lat and long G, steering position, throttle position, brake pressure, mph, rpm, and gear.

Thanks

I recently put in an order for an AIM MyChron3 Auto Gold XG system - will likely be around $800 before adding a bunch of sensors. In addition to speed, RPM, and 4 analogs (your choice, temps, pressures, O2, or custom) the Gold systems come with an Ay (lat accel) sensor. I have not previously used data acq for racing (though we use it at work extensively).

Gear can be computed automatically by the unit from a wheel speed, usually rear. They will sell sensors for steering angle, throttle, etc. However the 4 analog channels limit what you can do simultaneously.

Our plan is to use the combo sensor from an Olds Intrigue with "PCS" (Bosch 5.3 ESP, which I work on). Not sure what these'd run from the dealer. It has an integrated yaw rate sensor and accelerometer. In production, it is used to measure lateral acceleration (long. accel. being determined from wheel speeds). In this case, since we already have lateral, we'll turn it 90 deg and use it as a longitudinal G-sensor. http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

Then it's just a matter of figuring out the data! http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

Here's the AIM US website (they're imported from Italy):

They're used extensively in karting.

You can also download the analysis software and manuals/tech specs.

I 2nd the AIM systems. There are better systems, but you are going to spend 4X as much to equal it.

Most of their market is in karts, and $3K+ DA systems aren't going to sell many there. So for less than 1K you can get a really nice system.

I have an old school MyChron2--it was about $350--in my FF. I have been quite happy with it.

Anybody using the DL90?

(or any thoughts on it?)

The DL90 seems to be popular over on rennlist with the PCA Club Racers.

It must be at least double the cost of the MyChron3, then... http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

We opened up our rules on Spec RX7's to allow data acquisition systems this year. So far, we have had one car that has installed a system. The car is shared by a Dad (in ITA) and his son and daughter (in SRX7). They put in an AIM system (I think the MyChron 3). I don't have a clue as to the cost, but they are tracking lateral G , egt, speed, gear, throttle & brake, rpm, maybe some others. Slick software to analyze the data.
