I was doing some reading and came across the new Kumho tires. The V710, it looks like the new Hoosier that the showroom stock guys are on. Does anyone know if you can get them for a 13" wheel? I only wish they came out this month, so santa could buy them for me http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif

from what I've seen, they're not cheap yet (~170/tire)

but if they come down to regular kumho prices... yum

On their website, Kumho gives the sizes for the initial release. All are 15" plus.
They do commit to adding more sizes throughout 2004.
Intresting note also is they will be phasing out the ECSTA V700.

What kind of milage does the new Hoosier have? Can this new kumho last longer?

I have heard rumors that the new Hoosiers last like Toyos. Wouldn't that be cool!

I have a set of the new Hoosiers. Did not get to use them at the Western States Shootout in Nov as planned (rain).
They seem way too soft to last like Toyos. The sidewalls are extremely ridged. They look just like the V710 Kumhos..more like racing slicks then street tires.

So many new choices! Looks like I'll be racing my 3rd year on yet another tire choice. I was checking out Hoosier info on tirerack, and they seem to be saying that the "A" tire is a worthy canditate for a road racing lightweight car. Check this out:

The R3S04 (Racing) tire features a tread compound focusing on track and road racing applications, while the A3S04 (Autocross) tire features a tread compound focusing on autocross competition. The availability of both compounds also allows drivers to match their tread compound's capabilities to the weight and horsepower of their vehicle, as well as to the track and temperature conditions in which they will be running. Heavy vehicles, high horsepower, demanding tracks and warm ambient temperatures will probably require the use of R3S04 tires while light vehicles, low horsepower, less stressful tracks and cooler ambient temperatures may allow the use of the A3S04 tires.

I would imagine that the "A" tires wouldn't last nearly as long as the "R" tires. Although Jake, your car hovers off the ground. That is the only explainiation of how you can run those tires and still have pleanty left on them after 2 race seasons.

Not at all jealous...I like having to buy a few sets a year. http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/frown.gif

I like this part:

Achieving the best performance requires that fresh ECSTA V710 tires be used as their performance level will drop off after a typical race weekend’s use.

Sounds like they're going after the R3S03

Sounds like IT racing just got more expensive... guess it's time to revisit that bump into a "big boy" class....

This is going to show my ignorance, but has toyo stopped selling DOT race tires?

Jake

No - they still sell the RA1. It's just that Tirerack doesn't carry them.

I sell the Toyo RA-1. Just tell me what size and I'll get you a price and availability.

I noticed that tirerack is selling the new v710 for only $18 more per tire over the v700 for 205/50!
Though they probably wear out much faster

Now, if they'll just make them in 225/50-14 I'll try 'em.

Ty, that is the same size I need for the Supra. I asked and they will be available in August.

Really? Thanks, Jerry.

I was thinking that Kumho was getting out of the 14" business when they dropped the Victoracer in 225-14.

Glad to hear it. Of course, with that push to allow 15" wheels, maybe I'll be in the market for 225/50-15's and some 15x7 wheels. Assuming, of course, I can get 15x7, zero offset, 114.3 BC wheels for a reasonable price. If not, I'll probably just stay with my 14's

The closest I have found is 1.5" offset in a 15X7. The spec line for the Supra allows 15s because the L (luxury) type came with 15X6s instead of the P (performance) types 14X7s. If only adapter plate/spacers were legal we could bolt an adapter to the hub and run any bolt pattern with the big offsets that are so popular today.

Vote of confidence for Phil's - I did a lot of shopping for Toyos and he had the best prices by enough of a margin to make a real difference on 8 tires.

I heard a rumor that some of the Kumho racers were having trouble at Phoenix this weekend, you may want to check that out before plonking down your hard earned racing dollars.
Cheers.

I drove the R3S04s at the ARRC, very cool tires. Much grippier, much better turn in, and barely worn after two quallies and the race.

I second Kirk's vote for Phil's Tire Service: excellent price and delivery and a super guy to boot!
